Iron Maiden – Iron Maiden (EMI records, 1980)

iron-maiden-iron-maiden-1980

Iron Maiden formed at the end of 1975 by bassist Steve Harris (who is the only member of the original lineup still in the band). Several personnel changes and a few years later they recorded this absolute classic of a debut album. Maiden spearheaded the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (N.W.O.B.H.M.) movement, and remain as one of the most well known Metal bands ever.

The influence of Maiden and the N.W.O.B.H.M. has been well established and is obvious to anyone listening to early Thrash recordings, so I don’t think I need to expand on this!

I personally prefer the first two Maiden albums to any of the rest of their full length releases. I love the Punky edge Paul Di’Anno’s vocals brought to the band, and Clive Burr’s drumming is just amazing.

Personal faves from this album are Prowler, Transylvania, and Phantom Of The Opera.
